Learning Futures

The Innovation Challenge

Too many young people remain disengaged and uninspired by their learning experiences in school. The Learning Futures programme aims to go beyond current best practice in designing learning opprtunities which lead to deep, motivational and authentic learning. Its aim is to ensure that more young people actively and postively engage with learning through school, achieving better outcomes, and retain a commitment to learning beyond their school years.

Our Approach

In partnership with the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, we are working with a set of field trial sites which have been chosen from secondary schools across England. They will implement new pedagogical approaches, enquire into their effectiveness, learn from one another and share their learning with the wider system.

Outcomes

Learning Futures: Next Practice in Learning and Teaching sets out the reasons why innovation in pedagogy is needed in order to inspire young people, and enable all of them confidently to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. It argues that some key emergent (and some well-known) practices, taken together, might transform learners' (and teachers') experience of schooling. Learning Futures proposes a way of thinking about these approaches.
