Introduction to the School Federation Information Exchange |
Welcome to the federation area of The Innovation Unit website. It has been created by headteachers, plus managers and co-ordinators of federations, from across the country. We hope that you will find the content useful and that you will help us develop this knowledge base about schools working collaboratively, or 'federating', still further. The Education Act 2002 enabled maintained schools to federate. Schools nationally have concentrated on achieving four things through collaborating: to cut bureaucracy, maximise resources, raise standards and involve communities. The Act placed the responsibility for developing the ways in which federations might work on schools themselves, and The Innovation Unit acted as the focal point for advice based on practical experience of federations across the system. Please note that the resources in this web area are intended only for general information and use. They are not intended to address particular requirements or considered to be a recommendation by The Innovation Unit. |
