Next Practice in Resourcing Personalisation Event - The Story So Far

The first regional event 'Next Practice in Resourcing Personalisation: The story so far' took place on Thursday 28 June 2007 at Cramlington Community High School, Northumberland.

30 delegates attended from a total of 17 field trial sites in order to:

• identify other schools and practitioners facing similar challenges
• share their progress and learning so far with each other
• discuss their evolving thinking in the area of Resourcing
  Personalisation
• exchange ideas on ways to help and support each other.

During the morning, 3 field trial sites gave presentations.

Derek Wise and Mark Lovett of Cramlington Community High School shared their experience of developing enquiry-based learning.

Juliet Strang of Villiers High School shared her experience on developing a Virtual School.

Cheryl Heron of Bridgemary also presented.

After lunch a 'knowledge marketplace' event was held, during which delegates displayed on large boards summaries of the work they are undertaking.

In addition, representatives used flip charts to highlight their top 5 demand areas (what they need to know) and their top 5 supply areas (what knowledge they have that might be useful for others).

They then walked around the 'market' to learn more about each others' work and to make connections with practitioners with similar challenges.

"I thought the marketplace discussion with other schools went well, and the detailed presentations in the morning provided lots of ideas."

"It was useful to have the time to discuss initiatives that were happening in other schools."

"The use of 'post-its' to collect questions was an excellent way of creating a focused question/answer session."

The next regional event was held in November 2007 at Bridgemary Community Sports College and focused on the production of 'How to Guides' within each field trial. These guides are designed to encapsulate and share learning in a number of focus areas of Next Practice.
