Their Space

Their Space: Education for a digital generation draws on qualitative research with children and polling of parents to counter the myths obscuring the true value of digital media. Approaching technology from the perspective of children, it tells positive stories about how they use online space to build relationships and create original content. It argues that the skills children are developing through these activities, such as creativity, communication and collaboration, are those that will enable them to succeed in a globally networked, knowledge-driven economy.

The Deeps

"The concept of personalising learning is founded on the belief that only a fundamentally child-centred approach can ensure genuine equity and excellence in the school system."

Working with schools, Professor David Hargreaves identified and developed nine gateways through which a school may successfully explore personalising learning. His first model was presented in a series of pamphlets and offered schools a guide to developing personalising learning through related gateways.

The original nine gateways have evolved, through debate and discussion with over 250 headteachers, into a second model for the implementation of personalising learning. The nine gateways are now clustered to recognise their interdependence and linkage. In a second series of SSAT pamphlets on personalising learning Professor David Hargreaves examines the deepening of learning, experience, support and leadership in schools. Examples from individual schools show how the themes are applied in practice.
