Next Practice in Resourcing Personalisation - Bolton and Bedfordshire Local Authorities

Strategic Student Leadership

Bolton and Bedfordshire Local Authorities have joined forces as they are both widely recognised as demonstrating aspects of developing children and young people's voice in various parts of their respective councils. They will support student action teams to work with adults to co-construct strategic leadership roles in the deployment and delivery of personalised services for citizens. Some of these services will be focused in school settings and will be aligned to the school self evaluation process. A number will be school-based and will work across local authority commissioned student action teams, using an action learning design to highlight current ‘good practice' and challenge the move towards discovering what that ‘next practice' will be.

The student action team model engages young people in real decision-making and action, which takes them beyond the classroom to work on issues valued by students and the broader community, and which are linked to other mandated curriculum and community goals. The field trial will empower children, young people and adults to work collaboratively to solve problems, make decisions and plan for their collective futures. It will also seek to challenge not only what is within the traditional "school" setting with a drive towards personalisation, but also what the wider Council services (under Children's Services with its Every Child Matters agenda) is doing to ensure the personalisation of the whole system.
