This pilot programme led by BAAF will provide training for carers which will help them to support their children as they acquire primary level literacy skills. An integrated training approach led by voluntary groups alongside health, and childrens services will build on successful models already developed for carers. The pilot approach will be developed to deliver these literacy support courses nationally. Courses will be designed to meet carers' differing needs, including those with children from additionally marginalised groups. Following a review of literacy schemes, current evidence, and parent support of children's education, BAAF identified what might work for foster carers. Paired reading and social and emotional aspects of learning (SEAL) are the two schemes which have been used and training was commissioned in respect of both of these. Key Benefits:
