Parents' TV.net

The concept of Parents' TV grew originally through attempts to address the problems an individual school was experiencing in Darlaston communicating with parents in an area of considerable social deprivation. Local research showed that TV and video were accessible to the majority of parental households, so technology became the clear option for communicating with these parents in place of written letters and brochures. In addition, parents were more willing to listen to other parents than to school staff. So the model has been for parents to make videos for other parents on how to support their children's learning.

This is seen as a practical solution of using ICT to provide an engaging form of support from parents, for parents, which is accessible to a cross-range of parents. It is also seen as an opportunity to provide training to develop parents' skills more broadly around technology and open up potential opportunities for making money in the future such as shooting wedding videos. This project will encourage co-production between parents, schools and pupils and is aiming to provide online videos which can be shared with other schools through an online site and share learning on a wider level.

Key Benefits:

• Providing a practical solution to providing an engaging form of support from parents, for parents, which is accessible to a cross-range of parents.

• Providing training to develop parents' skills for potential opportunity for making money in the future i.e. wedding videos.

• Encouraging co-production between parents, schools and pupils and provide online videos to be shared with other schools.
