Next Practice in Communities for Learning - The Nowhere Foundation |
Community TransitionThe Nowhere Foundation are working with Ralph Allen School in Bath aiming to co-create an integrated learning community that takes a mutual responsibility for, and supports, Year 7 students in raising their achievement. Their work will build on extensive research into the application of systemic tools and methods used in primary schools in Wiltshire over the past four years. Their 'transitions' group will work with a group of 15 students whose entry and integration into the secondary system might be affected by their particular needs and circumstances. Some children may be playing an unwitting part in their family systems based on history of loss, exclusion, trauma or denial, which will affect their behaviour and ability to operate as learners or in a social group. The field trial aims to look at how school and wider communities can support these children and create the right place for effective learning, increasing the quality of students' engagement in learning, their attitudes to school, and levels of attendance and behaviour in and around the school. In addition, the trial hopes to increase the engagement with and involvement of parents in their children's education through a co-ordinated and shared approach to supporting students' learning.
