Innovation in Education - 9th November 2009
Organised by EducationGuardian, in association with Innovation Unit, this event set out to explore how and why innovation is imperative to the creation of a genuine 21st Century education.
The combination of the fiscal crisis and imminent reductions in public service budgets, together with the inadequacy of existing models to meet the high learning challenge of the 21st Century, now makes innovation a necessity, not an option.
This event aimed to go beyond 'blue sky' thinking; at its very core is the aim to demonstrate transformative Next Practice via practitioner-led, user engaged, radical innovation.
This event also aimed to go beyond the local, to explore global education, learn lessons from across the world and collectively develop a powerful vision for 21st Century education that enables all children and young people to fulful their potential as citizens of a global economy.
This event brought together the leading experts in technology, education, strategy and industry to explore what we need to achieve and how this translates into what we can do in schools.
A wide list of speakers attended, including Larry Rosenstock (CEO, High Tech High, San Diego), Timo Lankinen (Director General, Finnish National Board of Education), Michael Stevenson (Vice-president of Global Education, Cisco) and Charles Leadbeater.
